Can You Be An Elementary Education Teacher?

An elementary education teacher is the first person children will meet when they first start at school. It is the job of this teacher to provide the basic skills a child will need in order to have a well rounded education. They will often teach the children a multiple of different subjects including reading, mathematics, language arts, science and social studies. It is also their job to teach the same class of students throughout the whole school year until the students then advance further on in their education.

A person should only become such a teacher if they enjoy working with young children and understand how important it is for children to have as solid an educational foundation as possible. It is essential that you are able to both listen and speak clearly to your students as at this stage of life they are still discovering the potential of their minds and bodys.

In order for a person to become an elementary school teacher, they will need to get a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from either an accredited university or college. Plus they will also be required to pass a teacher training program that has been approved by the state in which they will be teaching. Most likely they need to also get their teacher’s license. However a person should also be aware that there are several states which will then require a teacher to earn their Master’s degree if they have only obtained their undergraduate degree. This must be accomplished within a specified time frame once they start teaching. Therefore it is essential for that person to check what credentials are required from the Department of Education in the state where they are looking to teach.

All those people who become an elementary education teacher will have been provided with training that places a lot of emphasis on human cognitive as well as psychological development. They will also be provided with training regarding the principles relating to curriculum development.
